We’re going to start harvesting winter squash this week.  Seems very odd to say after we just got through a week with heat indexes in the triple digits.  I’m actually not 100% sure why spaghetti squash is in the “winter squash” category of the seed catalog though, but since it is, we’ll just go along, categorize it as such and maybe it’ll help us with thoughts of cooler weather!   Spaghetti squash has really gained in popularity the past few years and is a great low-carb alternative to noodles.  We have two plantings spaced about a month apart so we hope satisfy that demand!  The 2nd round of spaghetti squash has been added after reading some of the comments from a prior CSA member poll.  If you haven’t taken the “1/2 way” poll yet, please do and let us know what you like, dislike, want more/less of, etc!

We also have a new variety of potato in the share this week.

This one is called Magic Molly.  It’s a stunningly purple variety of a fingerling potato.  They are a versatile tuber best suited for roasting, baking, sautéing, or boiling.  Personally, I find these to be the absolute best roasted potato ever!

We are still in the thick of tomato season but I can say for certain we are over the peak of it and on the down hill now.   We’ll still have pick your own cherry tomatoes for a few weeks yet though.  Those plants look the healthiest!  We even have a late planting of tomatoes that we hope matures sometime in mid- September for a late Summer treat!

Also included will be:

Peppers – Hot, Sweet Bells, and Sweet Red Frying types

Onions – yellow, white, & red

and a choice table with

okra, eggplant, chard, carrots, tomatillo, garlic, and more

On a bittersweet note, this will be Brandy’s final week with us.   Brandy started at Terra Fauna in 2016 and has become such an integral part of the farm in so many aspects we are really going to miss her.  We wish her all the best as she continues her education in pursuit of a Masters degree in Nutrition.
