Whew! What a Winter!! Technically speaking, it is still not over and I have a strong suspicion we are bound to get another blast or two of some cold and snowy weather, but the activity here at the farm is starting to pick up.

Joyce has been very diligently sewing seeds in the greenhouse the past couple of weeks.  Here she is planting a couple flats of phlox which eventually will be transplanted  into the “pick your own” flower garden for CSA members.  We are expanding the flower garden a bit this year by adding in a couple new varieties like Nigella and Godetia while also growing a larger amount of some of the favorites like Sunflowers.

We have also been busy planting lots of vegetable seeds as well.  Here Jonas is kneeling by a couple flats of broccoli.  As you can see behind him, we still have a coating of snow on the ground but that should be gone by the weekend!

In another Month or so, the onions and kale above will be big enough to transplant outside.  Then if all goes to plan, we will be harvesting from the kale plants you see in the bottom picture as part of the harvest for our first CSA share of 2021!

The CSA sign ups have been strong and we thank everyone for supporting locally.  We do still have available shares on both Tuesday and Thursday.  It looks very likely that we will eventually sell out though so it is best not to procrastinate on signing up for your CSA share too much longer.  You can reserve a share for $100 and pay the rest of the balance over time or on the first week of CSA share pick up in late May.

Pappy and Jonas were checking on the bees this weekend and the report back is the bees are all set and ready to go too.

Come on Spring!!
