The last official week of Summer is here and our CSA shares now pretty much reflect that.  Every week a couple more heat loving crops go by the wayside… we started to take down the tomatoes Friday, the zucchini are barely clinging to life, and the melons are long gone.  But in their places, more and more tastes of Fall come in.  This week we will be pulling our Leek crop.  These can add a unique, sweet, and mild onion flavor to a huge range of dishes.   But if you like to keep it traditional, we’ll also have some more Russet potatoes in the CSA share and maybe some potato and leek soup is in the future plans?  I think the forecast is calling for some chilly nights by the weekend!  If you are interested in picking up extra Russet Potatoes for winter use, we will have 10 lb bags available for $10.00.

This week will also be the last official week for Green Beans.  We had a great crop this year which also meant we had a lot of picking to do.  It’s certainly one of those crops where it’s not too too sad to see them go 🙂  Lot’s of labor involved!

Anyone else notice the Golden Beets lost their golden color when roasted?  The flavor stayed mild and sweet though!  This variety, called Golden Grex, is new for us this year and quite the performer.

The CSA share this week:

Leeks

Russet Potatoes

Green Filet Beans / Dragon Tongue Beans

Golden Beets

Kabocha Squash

Butternut Squash

choice: Collards/Swiss Chard/Kale

And we’ll have a substitution table as well.

The lower field is looking very nice right now.  It’s packed full of crops for the month of October like Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Broccolini, Fennel…!
