Some cool things happening this week!  First, rain is supposedly on our door step with forecasters calling for an inch or so tomorrow.  I sure do hope they are not fooling with me.  The crew is barely clinging on around here nursing crops along the best we can with the limited irrigation power we have.  A good dose of rain would be so splendid!   A morale boost for sure.  We are also expecting a fresh batch of pasture raised to arrive tomorrow just in time for CSA members to purchase this week.  I’m not sure yet if the birds will be parted up into the breasts, thighs, and wings or just kept as whole birds.  Mike, the farmer who raises them, said it all depends on how much time he has.   In any case, plan ahead this week for the fact that we will have freshly butchered, unfrozen chicken available on CSA pick up days this week only.  Anything left after this week will then be placed in the freezers.  And, last but certainly not least,  Pappy is reinforcing the CSA shares this week with a 1/2 lb Teddy Bear of his delectable honey!  1 Teddy Bear for every member.  With the lack of rain and pollen coating everything for weeks on end, the hives are jam packed with honey and a nice harvest awaits in a few weeks.  So, all of that as well as a pretty darn good share of vegetables all things considered.   The size of some things is a little on the small side but we’re certainly grateful for everything harvested! The CSA shares will be

Romaine Lettuce – Green, Red or both this round!

Spinach – we’ll see this crop again in the Fall hopefully

Red Beets – ditto here, although in the Fall we also grow Golden Beets as well

Garlic Scapes – a CSA specialty!

Broccoli – a nice Spring for Broccoli with the cool weather

Cabbage – mini green cabbages,  we’ll grow them again for the Fall

Hakurei Turnips – White, baby turnips great for salads or roasting.  Very mild

Snow Peas – flat peas good in stir fry and also salads

& Honey!
