Happy Spring everyone! The countdown to the start of the 2025 CSA season is officially 50 days away! The greenhouses are vibrant with so many seedlings and we are gearing up for another great growing season.  The weather has been characteristically Spring lately… all over the place!  The rain we had last night was good for ground conditions and the strawberries and garlic certainly appreciated it.  As soon as it dries out enough we will be in the fields planting the Kale, Swiss Chard, Broccoli, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Kohlrabi, Lettuce, and these beautiful Red Beets pictured below.

Over the Winter we also decided to expand the apple orchard 8x in size.  We’re going from 2 trees up to 16!  We will be planting Fuji, Black Oxford, Northern Spy, Sweet Sixteen, and Tolman Sweet.  Just give us about 7 or so more years until we start to pick from these hopefully.  Which seems like a long time but if we planted these when we first moved here we’d have been picking from them for a few years now!  Isn’t there a saying that goes something like, “When is the best time to plant a tree?  30 years ago.  When is the next best time?  Today.”  Heather grabbed a few pictures of the moment we can look back on one day.

Digging the holes

Bundle up, It’s chilly!

Whaddya think?  Does that look straight?

These baby pepper plants sure loved that 80 degree day and they are springing to life in the greenhouse!
