My wife and I are expecting our first child any day now. Monday, September 10 is the official due date, however we are both thinking it will be a bit later then that. We are very thankful for all the help from from my mother, Joyce and my sister, Kristen, in helping to keep the CSA going without any hiccups this past week and in the weeks to come.
This Saturday we will be butchering our 2nd and last batch of chickens for 2012. These are the hearty warriors that are left from the great fox massacre of July. If anyone would like to pick up a fresh unfrozen one let me know!
The box this week is very much like last week minus the celeriac. This will probably be the last week for a few items as both the zucchini and tomatoes are starting to look rather rugged. I would say we have had a fantastic harvest of both though.
To everything there is a season. So as the summer crops wind down the fall crops start looking better and better. Some fall season CSA items to look forward to are Edamame, Neck Pumpkin, Acorn Squash, Butternut Squash, Sweet Potatoes, Storage Potatoes, Turnips, Radish, Kohlrabi, Cabbage, and Beets.
