Greetings, Terra Fauna folks!
The past week has brought the Valley some insane humidity and heat, which has been taking a bit of a toll on us. On the bright side, the rains are letting the melons and onions get a strong start and the kohlrabi is as abundant as ever. The rain has also made room for some new CSA share items like cabbage and sugar snap peas. In fact, as I write this, the rain is downpouring and water pounds against the windows. All hail the rain!
Amid the humidity this week, I planted a ton of onion starts and some patty pan squash, both of which we will see later in the season. I also discovered my new favorite refreshing snack: garlic scapes! They don’t exactly make me friends, but let me tell you, they sure are spicy!
In the share this week:
Strawberries
Snow Peas
Sugar Snap Peas
Pea Shoots
Broccoli
Cabbage
Lettuce Mix
Spinach
Garlic Scapes
Kohlrabi
The number of items in the share is ramping up as we enter peak growing season here in PA. Make sure to check out the Our Vegetables section of the website for tips on preservation if you can’t seem to use up all of the veggies within the week.
Guess what?! Terra Fauna is now hitting the social media scene with an Instagram account! Here is a little preview of some beauties we captured at the farm this week:
