We are just about finished with our seed order for the upcoming year. This is always one of my favorite “jobs” and the anticipation of Spring really starts to build up. It also helps when it is 60 degrees outside with rumbles of thunder! This weekend sure was a welcome relief from the bitter cold, but that cold weather may have helped to knock down the pest populations just a bit after the past two mild winters. In any case, we will be ready to roll with the punches as always this year.
The 2013 end of year survey results were encouraging to read. Thank you very much to all the members who filled them out. All members rated the quality of our produce as either good or excellent. All members rated the amount they received as either just the right amount or a little too much. The survey results will also help us to tweak our plantings a bit to suit the members. This year we will be doubling the size of our sweet potato patch, and increasing the size of our tomatillo, carrot, kohlrabi, and beet plantings. We will be eliminating fava beans. We will be adding shelled beans, a heirloom variety called Jacob’s Cattle, which is a favorite for baked beans. We will also be adding new varieties of sweet corn, melons, turnips, and winter squash along to go with our favorites like the purple passion asparagus, waltham butternut squash, dragon’s tongue beans, and our custom 7 variety lettuce mix. Yum!
We will be keeping our membership prices the same for 2014. A half share, which consists of 4-5 items per week will be $300. A whole share of 8-10 items will be $550. Our pick up day options will be:
- Tuesday on the farm Noon – 7pm
- Friday at the Bath Farmers Market 3-7pm
Existing members will have until the end of February to reserve their membership. After this, we will open up to new members on a first come first serve basis. Memberships can be reserved with a $100 down payment, the balance will be due by the first day of the CSA season. (~ May 21) We have sold out of memberships every year so please do not wait to reserve yours!
