We have a great share to start off the 2017 season with.  The growing conditions have been favorable and it seems strange to not be complaining about the weather.   I still do have a few choice words for the bugs and deer though!  Here is a list of what to expect in a Full size share:

1 qt Strawberries

~12 oz Spinach

~8 oz Lettuce Mix

2 Heads of Lettuce

2 Heads of Pac Choy

2 Heads of Yokatta Na

1 lb Rhubarb

1 lb Asparagus

8-10 stems of Kale

~6 Spring Onions

~10 Radish

Half shares will receive all of these items in approximately half of the amounts

Everyone will pack their own share and if their is something you know you do not want, you do not have to take it.  Of course, we encourage everyone to try new things though!

Our Strawberries are a variety called Earliglow.  These are widely considered to the best TASTING strawberry around.  They are not popular with commercial growers however because of their size.  These berries are one of the greatest examples of the benefits of supporting a small farm and buying local.  Once you taste one, you will never want to settle for one of those cardboard monstrosities ever again.

A bit of an unusual item we have for everyone is Yokatta Na.  This is an Asian green that can be used raw in salads or cooked in stir fries.  Yokatta  means “was good” in Japanese.   Let’s give it a whirl!  We honestly haven’t tried it out yet, but it’s on the menu for tomorrow.  We will share our recipe and thoughts on our new group Facebook page.  If you would like to be added to our group just let us know.  This will be a private group we have named “TFF community” in which all members will be able to share recipes, thoughts, and ideas for the CSA.  Help us build a “foodie community”!!

And do not forget to pick some herbs this week!  You can bring your own clippers or use one of ours.  We will have Mint, Chives, Oregano, Thyme, Rosemary, Sage, Chamomile, and Lemon Balm.  There will be more herbs to come and a lot of flowers are out there growing too but nothing to cut just yet.

A picture of our loose leaf lettuce destined for a delicious salad no doubt

See everyone soon!
