We got some much needed rain this week, but the hot sun and cloudless skies dried things back up in a hurry.  The fall crops seem to be growing at a snails pace.   Spinach, carrots, heads of lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, and a few more things are out in the field with hopes of maturing in time for the CSA shares but it’s starting to look like it will be a race against time.  We will continue on with the shares being storage crop themed sprinkled with a couple new items.  This week we will be able to cut our arugula and we hope we get enough broccolini for everyone but it might have to wait another week,  it’s getting oh so close!

Compared to broccoli, the flavor of Broccolini is mild, peppery and subtlely sweet. The leaves are edible as well.  While it can be eaten raw, broccolini tastes best when cooked – sautéed, steamed, roasted or grilled.  We have a lot planted so hopefully everyone gets to try it a couple different ways!

We will also have our pavilion decorated up for the final month of the season with corn stalks, gourds and pumpkins which will all be included in this weeks share!
