Where did the month of May just go?  It has to be about the busiest time of year for us and just flies by.  It is a bit of a relief to flip the calendar to June… that is as long as you have everything accomplished that you are supposed to.  This year has that feeling.  We assembled an outstanding farm staff and together we are really starting to kick some butt!  There is not a weed left in the entire garden 😉  We will be updating our staff page on the website soon to include them and perhaps you will get the chance to meet some of them on CSA pick up days.

The theme to this year is “two weeks behind”  Everything just seems to be running late.  This will be the latest we have gone without having tasted our first juicy strawberry.  There are lots of green ones though so it won’t be much longer.  Besides, who needs strawberries when you have….  KOHLRABI!!

The vegetable straight from outer space lands in the CSA boxes this week.  We will be loading some recipe ideas on the website soon.  In short though, this is another very versatile veggie and both the bulb and the leaves can included in your dinner plans.

The share this week will look like this:

Kohlrabi

Lettuce Mix

Spinach

Bunching Onions

Kale

Asparagus

We can tell the asparagus patch is maturing nicely.  We never had it go 3 weeks into the season.  Bonus!

We have a bit more rhubarb we can harvest, but we decided to wait until strawberry season is in full swing since the two go so hand in hand together.  If you still have some rhubarb kickin’ in the fridge try this rhubarb iced tea recipe:

In a large saucepan, combine chopped rhubarb and 8 cups water; bring to a boil, and simmer for 1 hour. Strain the liquid, add sugar to taste, stirring to dissolve, and allow to cool. Serve over ice with a sprig of mint.

Also,  like us on Facebook and share your recipe ideas!!

Thanks
